About The Artist

I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St. Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.

This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water, however, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.

Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.

Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.

Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

I am always very pleased to receive commissions.

About The Artist

I am a Fine Artist based in Byfleet near Woking Surrey, with a BA Hons degree in Fine Art from Kingston University.

I specialise in painting in the genre of “Abstract Expressionism.” I am passionate about colour and the way it can grab your eye and draw you into the painting. I have a keen interest in horticulture so I often use colours inspired by plants and nature to help me develop the palette in my paintings.

The materials that I use are crucial to the final result as they allow me to create intense plains of colour, incorporating translucency and depth. I create space, light and colour through the progressive physical application of layers and mediums.

I relate my work to the Sublime, a return to pure aesthetic beauty within painting and the joy of creating a thing of beauty. My paintings utilise movement and energy an evoke power through a strong use of colour and bold confident mark making.

I welcome commissions and am very happy to discuss any ideas you may have. My paintings on this site are not for sale but demonstrate the types of work you can commission. Please contact me to discuss further.

Statement From A Press Release

Being brought up in the Middle East has had a profound effect on artist Charlotte Amison. Charlotte says the vibrant colourful culture and the strong use of primary colours in the region's decor and interiors is reflected in her striking canvases. 'Without a doubt, this has had a profound effect on my relationship with colour and the way I use it within my work - and the way I see the world,' she explained.

3D & Very Textured Feel – Abstract Art

Washes of acrylic combined with heavy mediums to give a 3D and very textured feel to the painting. Acrylic washes allowed to run between the mediums to link colours in the painting. This was an experimental smaller piece of work before starting to work on a much larger scale.

Water Lily Feeling Commission – Abstract Art

This piece was commissioned for a bedroom where they wanted to painting to go over their bed and with their blue colour scheme, behind the painting. It was a dark wall so the use of a lot of white made the painting stand out and reflect some light back into the space. Again a water lily like feeling due to the layers of acrylic floating over the canvas.
