After the Rain, Ash Ranges

Ash Ranges is an extensive area of stunning open dry heathland, offering a home to wildlife. Located between Normandy and Pirbright, it is managed on behalf of the Ministry Of Defense. Ash Ranges is a haven for numerous rare heathland plant, invertebrate and reptile species such as sundews and the green tiger beetle. A large open area of heath land with gently rolling hills, the reserve is a spectacular site in late summer when the heather is in bloom.

About The Artist

David was born in 1963 in Deepcut, Surrey and currently lives in St. Johns, Woking.

Drawing and painting from an early age, he has always had an interest in the outdoors, and after a period living on the Isle of Skye on Scotland’s west coast, a particular fascination with light and atmosphere has developed.

Recently he has also focused on the woodland / heathland scenery of the South East. The challenge of trying to capture fleeting moments in oils is Davids aim.

As well as painting, he also produces highly detailed pencil portraits and is always happy to discuss commissions of anything from favourite cars, motorcycles, pets or family.

David is a member of Pirbright Art Club and Woking Society of Arts.

About The Artist

Born in South West London, Daniele is a self- taught artist. Half Italian, hence the spelling of his name which often causes confusion! He lives in Guildford with his wife and menagerie of animals.

Daniele paints primarily Landscape, Seascape or Animals. He paints in a traditional style and tries to achieve a sense of realism in his works. He is especially interested in effects of light.

He exhibits with 5 art societies and enjoys receiving commissions for painting animals, buildings and trains, as well as his usual landscapes.

Daniele started painting in 2001, and joined his then local art group, Merton Art Society, in 2003. He is now their Exhibition Secretary and received the “Favourite Painting” accolade 5 times at MAS exhibitions between 2007 and 2010.

In 2009, he was commissioned by Network Rail to paint two posters to be used by the company to promote track side safety amongst staff. As a result of this, he was also commissioned to paint Woking Junction for an outgoing Route Director of Wessex Region of Network Rail.

Daniele also won the Jill Seward Memorial Trophy in July 2011 at Frimley and Camberley Society of Arts, for “The People’s Choice” favourite painting.

Britain’s Thriving Local Art Societies – Thousands of enthusiastic painters primed for action.

“Some members, including … Daniele Mandelli, have become lauded personalities in the wider art scene … Daniele’s atmospheric landscapes and woodland scenes attract much attention.

Daniele has been painting since 2001, and joined Merton Art Society two years later. Now the society’s exhibitions secretary, he told us:
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in painting to join, as you will make many new friends, meet other local artists and exhibit your work in twice yearly exhibitions. I even met my wife through the society!”
