About The Artist

Debbie was brought up in a small, family-run flower bulb nursery just on the outskirts of London. She discovered her passion for photography when she left school.

With a love of art and a curiosity to know more about photography, she enrolled at her local college to study an A-level in the subject. An ever-growing fascination for the natural world led to her applying and finally graduating in 2003 with a BA (Hons) Degree in Wildlife Photography.

Since graduating, Debbie has built on her collection of Fine Art images, looking at the natural world, landscapes, travel and more recently bringing the outside world into the studio to focus on the detailed beauty of plant life and flowers.

Debbie is keen to experiment more and is currently working on a limited edition piece titled ‘Four Seasons’ and a set of 12 panoramic images on ‘The Genus Auricula’.

Debbie strives to capture the essence of the natural world, with her focus on many types of flora; her work has a clean, elegant, stylish edge with a true botanical reference. She has won many awards for her fine art photographs including the Royal Horticultural Society’s prestigious Gold Medal for her exhibition titled ‘The Genus Galanthus’.

I personally believe that paintings as media share the heart of the painter who wishes to record and leave the moment we encounter through our daily lives.

I hope that I never stop expressing the beauty of nature and humans who struggle to discover the reality of their lives, different from those of yesterday.

It might seem delicate or subtle, but valuable enough to keep through our whole lives. For pursuit of happiness, I think we should even listen to the whispering wind and I believe that every answer is waiting for us, there in nature.

I love colour, and I remember feeling excited by looking at all the flowers in full bloom. Ramster Gardens is a magical location, and has an enormous range of trees and plants. I used a large combination of warm colours for the foreground and cool colours for the background, to give an impression of distance.
The end result is very close to the actual scene.

About The Artist

I am a Fine Artist based near Hartley Wintney in Hampshire but I also spend a few months of the year in Marbella in Spain where I paint on location.

I studied ‘visual communications’ and completed a foundation course in the late 1980’s – gaining a distinction at the Cardiff Institute of Art & Design. I then worked in London as an Art Director for a number of leading agencies before deciding to concentrate on oil painting and pen and ink drawing. I have been classically trained and my style has been described as similar to that of the ‘Impressionists’.

My paintings and drawings are for sale and can be viewed on this Surrey Artists site and in the Gallery of my website. I am also available to undertake commissioned work.

Art Lessons

I am in the process of setting up art classes in the evenings for the Fleet area of Hampshire in the UK, and also in Marbella in Spain. I will naturally be teaching adult students how to paint in oils, and will also be concentrating on developing their drawing techniques.

The objective of the courses will be to focus on individual requirements. Everybody has their own preferences regarding what they like to paint or draw. I will endeavour to improve a student’s skill level, so they become more confident and proficient.

I also will be organising groups to join me during some weekends drawing and painting landscapes on location.

I have always been intrigued by water and how the light distorts the colours reflecting from the surface. The pond in Hartley Wintney is full of wildlife, and is an ideal place to sit and contemplate. I wanted the scarecrow who stands there to appear alive, but not to the extent of frightening away the children! I was impressed as to how well preserved he was and well-dressed too.
