About The Artist

‘I aspire to create “Visible Feelings” that can be shared by those who care to pause and wonder. I call upon my life’s experiences to inspire me and I let the feeling emerge in my work. I have been amazed, and sometimes disturbed, by what I have learned about myself through my paintings. I am so much richer for knowing myself better.’
Alan Brain
Alan Brain Vapour-Trails

Alan Brain discovered painting about twelve years ago when he attended a water colouring class with some friends. It led to a change of direction that he has never regretted. Today, his unique style, combined with spiritual awareness, produces works of unusual vibrancy and colour. As a former pilot and constant flyer, the immensity of the heavens with its changing moods has fascinated Alan. It features in many of his paintings where he manages to capture the vastness and mysteriousness of space.
His early years in Japan may have enhanced his bold view of landscapes and skies and you can see in his work the influence of wonderful open spaces to be found in places such as Wales, Arizona, New Mexico and Africa, all of which Alan visits regularly. However, such harmony with nature cannot be taught, it is an intrinsic part of the artist that we are fortunate to glimpse.

Alan exhibits several times a year in and around his home in Chobham Surrey, England. His work has been accepted for several prestigious exhibitions in London, including the Guild of Aviation Artists and the Society of Marine Artists. Alan also applies his teaching skills (he was a Flying Instructor) and helps his fellow artists through his course called ‘Find You Own Painting Direction’ and by one to one tuition. He believes it is important to give something back to those less fortunate than ourselves and is a strong supporter of the Samaritans charity; a percentage from his painting sales are contributed to his local branch.

A Perfect Line

‘This painting was completed for coursework, when I studied Illustration for a year at Kingston University in Surrey, UK. It was to illustrate a scene from Dylan Thomas’ ‘Under Milk Wood’. My Granddad posed as the vicar who has just thought of such a brilliant line in his poetry that he doesn’t look where he is dipping his pen.’

About The Artist

Born in 1985, Will Rochfort grew up in Lymington on the south coast of England and, apart from his time studying Illustration and Fine Art at Kingston University, he has lived there all his life. Since graduating in 2008 his focus has been primarily oil painting.

Will’s main reason for becoming an artist is from a passion for creativity.

“There is rarely any strong meaning or message behind my work – narrative takes a large role because I like the work to be emotive through what is being portrayed, but creativity is the driving force behind all of my paintings”

From 2008 to 2010 Will Rochfort worked as an Official Artist for the 2012 London Olympics, working with Olympic Gold Medalists, producing paintings in support of the Games and its associated charities.

As well as completing several portrait commissions, Will Rochfort is always searching for new ideas for paintings and usually finds this in books or cinema. With influences ranging from Degas to Rockwell, to the films of Steven Spielberg, it is narrative that really interests Will and he always aims to have a story within his work.

“I am a very visual painter and with the public being my target audience over the art establishment, I always aim to depict scenes that, through the characters portrayed, I hope people can relate to and enjoy”
