About The Artist

Fi Channon has been passionate about painting and drawing from an early age. As with many artists, what initially started out as a hobby, soon evolved from painting purely for pleasure to creating pieces of artwork for friends. The transition from hobby to possible career had begun. To fund this effort, a more commercial enterprise was required resulting in Fiona setting up her own greeting card company for a short time.

Later, in an attempt to gain direction, Fiona decided to study graphic design at Farnborough Technical College. However, this was to be cut short by a car accident. It was during her recuperation and moments of solace that followed that she began to channel her artistic abilities. Working mainly in pastel and charcoal, Fiona was able to use this medium to express her own personality and inner self.

Fiona’s fascination and understanding of the human form has resulted in her producing many portraits and commissions for private clients.

Today, Fiona works mainly with pastels and inks. Her inspiration comes not only from the physical world and her experiences from the various places she has lived, but also from the spiritual world, through meditation, expressing her charismatic personality and her inner self. She creates each painting in a meditative state – being guided by feeling and intuition. The results are varied and rich and explain the different styles she produces.

Healing Through Art

These are turbulent times for many people and the stresses on the body and mind can sometimes be overpowering. Sometimes, we feel the need to reach out for help, but we do not know from where, or what it is we seek.

Fiona Walter-Channon has been involved in a holistic and spiritual way of living for many years and she has developed a way of transferring healing energy to people in need. It may simply be in the form of healing with a “hands on” approach, but more interestingly, she is able to channel paintings with healing energy to help the person in need to grow, heal and recover from whatever ails them.

By sitting in meditation with a pad and pencil, Fiona asks for a picture relevant to the person who has come to see her and then waits for a picture to come through her hands.

The energy in the room changes considerably and the sitter will feel the benefits whilst waiting for his/her drawing. The pictures themselves are able to bring forth issues that have perhaps been buried for some time in the sitter’s psyche and in this way, the issues are dealt with and healed.

The pictures may appear to be different at various times, as certain aspects are surfacing, enabling the sitter to understand why they are feeling the way they do. The painting will speak to the subconscious and sometimes the first viewing can be surprising, but on a very deep level, the painting is already working. After a time, the painting will seem different. The effects are long-lasting and beneficial. It is a gentle therapy of a very different kind.

About The Artist

I was born and raised in Glasgow. Due to long periods of illness during childhood, I found myself retreating into my own imaginative world, through my love of drawing. As I grew up, it became clear that drawing and painting were my passion. Finally, a long-held ambition was realised when I graduated in Drawing and Painting from Glasgow School of Art.

After Art School, I felt I needed a wider context for my work, so decided to study with The Open University. It was hard going as I was teaching art at the time, but it was very useful. I specialised in 20th century arts, with the study of Music, History and Poetry giving a much wider range of reference to my work.

My work is mainly for private collectors, often being specific commissions for their home or office. Usually these are Allegories, Portraits or Figure Studies. I have had solo and group shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harrogate and Brighton.
My approach is in many ways traditional, following the methods of the great masters of figure painting At the same time I have always been fascinated by the way the camera captures people in both still and moving images. In my work, I try to combine these two potent sources of inspiration to make intriguing images.
“The narrative is implied, but has to be completed by the viewer…”

Ronnie Ireland – Jazz Singer

I was born into a family of singers – from my father there was opera and the legendary classical singers; from my mother, the Hollywood musicals and the show tunes.

Pop and Rock I found for myself.

This broad base has served me well, as I have enjoyed performing in all of these styles and found their interaction fascinating. Formal voice training followed, with lead roles in opera and international choral performances with the world’s leading conductors and orchestras.

At the same time, I led my own rock band, writing much of the material. “The Great American Songbook” was always there however and audiences were often surprised to be introduced to standards by Irving Berlin or Duke Ellington in between the rock classics!

Nowadays, I centre on those jazz and swing standards, but am always open to including any song from anywhere that catches my interest.
