About The Artist

John Walsom is a Surrey artist who’s renowned for his paintings of architectural subjects. He has illustrated the buildings of some of the best-known companies and people in the world. He is represented in London by Burlington Paintings of Burlington Gardens, Mayfair.

John began in the 1970’s by selling his paintings of local scenes from the railings of the Bayswater Road in London. Most of these early works are now scattered around the world, from the Americas to Japan. In the 1980’s he worked at a much larger scale as a scenic artist, painting huge canvases and backdrops for live theatre.

Since 1990, John has specialised in painting architectural subjects, in oils, watercolour and acrylics. His success has been built on a sense of enjoyment and light in all his pictures and a thorough understanding of his subjects and his technique.

The demand for his work today, means that most of his time is filled with commissions for paintings and illustrations.

John has produced pictures for banks and property developers, magazines, advertising agencies, architects and designers.

His clients include: The Royal Bank of Scotland, The University of Cambridge, Historic Royal Palaces, Rolex Watch Co., Holmes Place, Land Securities, J Walter Thompson, McCann Erickson, Guardian Weekend Magazine, Berkeley Homes, Hammerson, Costain, Barratt, Building Design Partnership, Sheppard Robson, Chapman Taylor Partnership, Opera North and The Oxford University Press.

He has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show and has recently completed a commission to produce the painting for the 2009 “Oxford Almanack” – an annual publication of the Oxford University Press. Previously commissioned artists include JMW Turner, John Piper, David Gentleman and Sir Hugh Casson.

John lives in Thames Ditton, Surrey with his family and works from his studio in Kingston Upon Thames. When he’s not painting, he likes playing blues guitar, and/or drinking beer in the sun.

Architectural Portraits

Portraits of buildings, from private houses to modern office developments, can be commissioned in all sizes, from small watercolours to very large oil paintings. They can reflect pride in a new development, or affection for an old building.

The colours and design are inspirational, but the whole process is governed by a respect for the craft of painting. The finished paintings evoke the very specific atmosphere of each place, in the nature of a true portrait.

John Walsom wants his pictures to have a positive impact.

“I’ve always tried to paint pictures that people will want to look at for a long time, without getting bored. People are proud of their buildings. They love the way they look at certain times of day, in a certain season, and a reminder of that moment makes them happy. It’s all about capturing a moment in the life of a place.”

About The Artist

Born in South West London, Daniele is a self- taught artist. Half Italian, hence the spelling of his name which often causes confusion! He lives in Guildford with his wife and menagerie of animals.

Daniele paints primarily Landscape, Seascape or Animals. He paints in a traditional style and tries to achieve a sense of realism in his works. He is especially interested in effects of light.

He exhibits with 5 art societies and enjoys receiving commissions for painting animals, buildings and trains, as well as his usual landscapes.

Daniele started painting in 2001, and joined his then local art group, Merton Art Society, in 2003. He is now their Exhibition Secretary and received the “Favourite Painting” accolade 5 times at MAS exhibitions between 2007 and 2010.

In 2009, he was commissioned by Network Rail to paint two posters to be used by the company to promote track side safety amongst staff. As a result of this, he was also commissioned to paint Woking Junction for an outgoing Route Director of Wessex Region of Network Rail.

Daniele also won the Jill Seward Memorial Trophy in July 2011 at Frimley and Camberley Society of Arts, for “The People’s Choice” favourite painting.

“Some members, including … Daniele Mandelli, have become lauded personalities in the wider art scene … Daniele’s atmospheric landscapes and woodland scenes attract much attention.

Daniele has been painting since 2001, and joined Merton Art Society two years later. Now the society’s exhibitions secretary, he told us:
“I would encourage anyone with an interest in painting to join, as you will make many new friends, meet other local artists and exhibit your work in twice yearly exhibitions. I even met my wife through the society!”

A few summers spent in the strikingly beautiful Dordogne region have been a great source of inspiration for me: from the rivers meandering through the valleys, to sandstone villages and bustling markets, to bastides towering above precipitous cliffs: all seemingly untouched by time.

About The Artist

Jane Atherfold grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. She studied Fine Art at Rhodes University, South Africa, where she graduated with a BA degree in Fine Art (Painting) in 1990.

In 1995, Jane moved to England, and after 16 years as a working mother, has resumed painting full-time. She paints a wide range of subjects, enjoying landscapes the most and draws inspiration from nature.  She is especially interested in the influence of light.

Capturing mood and atmosphere through establishing a sense of place, use of tone and colour are elements intrinsic to painting and what Jane strives to achieve in her work.

Jane works primarily in oils on canvas, although she enjoys working in other mediums as well. The English Romantic painters, Constable and Turner as well as the French Impressionists, Monet and Pissarro, are important influences in her work.

Jane is currently working on a series of French landscapes and rural villages in the Dordogne region; South African landscapes as well as “London by Night”, a series of black and white paintings based on the evocative photos of London in the early 1900s, taken by Francis Sandwith.

Jane welcomes commissions and would be delighted to discuss the details of your requirements. The original paintings shown here are just a few of those available for sale: please refer to Jane’s website (by Surrey Artists) to see all of her paintings.

Some of Jane’s work is reproduced in the form of giclée prints which can be obtained by contacting Jane by phone or email.

About The Artist

I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St. Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.

This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water, however, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.

David Harmer Woking Surrey Artist

Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.

Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.

Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

I am always very pleased to receive commissions.

About The Artist

Hildegarde was born on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.

She studied Social Science at the University of the Orange Free State, but has always been passionately involved in painting. She came to the UK in the “Sixties”, is married with two children, and lives in Surrey where she teaches and paints in her Studio in Molesey.

Hildegarde is primarily a “Colourist”. Her work is much influenced by her roots and she brings warmth and vibrancy into her paintings where with gay abandon uses colour and paint in a way that has been described as, “delightfully sensual”. Whether tackling cluttered Still Lifes of everyday objects, or landscapes of Southern Africa and Europe, she delights in depicting the effects of light and dark. The “Impressionists” and “Scottish Colourists” have had a major influence on her work. Although mainly an oil painter, Hildegarde also uses watercolour and mixed media.

Of Painting as an activity, she says “No matter how demanding painting can sometimes be, it always fills me with a huge sense of satisfaction and joy. In painting I escape into a World of my own, where I can revel in creating images with colour, shape and form.”

Galleries and Exhibitions

Hildegarde has sold to clients world-wide. Her paintings are represented by Art Galleries in South Africa and London. Her work is regularly exhibited with the Chelsea Art Society, and has been represented at the Affordable Art, and Battersea Art Fairs . In September 2007 she was Guest Artist for “The Family Law in Partnership”, Bedford Chambers, Covent Garden, London, and exhibited in May 2008 hanging at the Royal British Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. One of her works, “Daffodils” was recently auctioned at the Royal Academy on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Research.

Painting Commissions

Hildegarde undertakes commissions for Still Lifes incorporating client’s colour schemes and precious possessions as well as painting private homes and gardens.

Art Talks & Demonstrations / Art Tutor - Including Cruise Liners

Hildegarde regularly runs painting workshops and demonstrations for a number of Art Societies and exhibits both in South Africa and England. She has sold to clients world-wide. For the last four years Hildegarde has been a watercolour instructor for major Cruise Lines.

Art Groups

Hildegarde is a member of Molesey Art Society, Chelsea Art Society, Sunbury on Thames Art Society & Thames Valley Art Society and Weybridge Art Society.
