About The Artist

I have been an artist most of my life. I was trained at Bournemouth College of Art and Design and have since developed a keen eye for detail and use of colour.

My work has covered a wide range of subjects and styles, including landscape, marine, architectural, portraiture and fantasy, using watercolour, acrylic, gouache, or mixed media.  Variety has been an essential part of my work, with equal opportunities for a disciplined study or a creative self-expression.

I now work mainly on art commissions using watercolour or acrylic and would be happy to discuss your specific requirements.

About The Artist

I am a graphic designer and senior partner at FdK Design Consultants but I'm relatively new to the art world, so still have a bit of ‘imposter syndrome’ and shy away from calling myself an artist.

My mother is an architect and art and creativity were very much part of home life as a child, so perhaps it's not surprising that I knew I wanted to be working in the creative industries from an early age.

I was helped by going to a school with an outstanding art department that encouraged creativity and basic art skills and it seemed completely logical to go on to study graphic design at the University of the Creative Arts in Epsom.

I loved my time there - this was in the days prior to the Mac and as well as the principles of design and design thinking, there was a great deal of 'craft' skill to learn; including drawing and painting, typesetting, artwork creation and much more.

Once released into the real world, I worked in a local graphics studio in Guildford before setting up a design consultancy with a friend in 1989, just as the Macintosh computer and desktop publishing were arriving in the UK.

We were convinced that this would revolutionise the graphic design profession and were one of the first studios to set up completely equipped with Macs. The 30 years that followed have been a roller-coaster ride, with highs and lows aplenty and although now much smaller than in our heyday, we continue to produce commercial graphic and communication design for companies of all sizes.

However, over time, I have come to realise that in bringing undoubted efficiency to the design process, the Mac has also taken something away and it feels like we may have lost our connection with those 'craft' skills and too often creativity is being directed by the technology, rather than by the designer.

With that in mind, I decided that I wanted to go back to my roots and have an outlet for my own creativity; something that would allow me to design and create pieces for my personal satisfaction, using both digital and traditional tools.

Currently I work primarily in ink and watercolour, but I'm also experimenting with digital art, linocut and acrylic painting, so my full portfolio is very varied, whilst I work towards finding my own style.

Sculpture - Making Waves - Jesmonite, fibre glass, jesmonite pigments and twine Sculpture - Woking Sculptor and Artist Sally de Courcy

Making Waves

The work was based on an antique Chinese vase from a museum archive. The vase was red and gold and had a fish detail in the glaze. The sculpture reflects the fish detail by simulating the sinusoidal motion of a fish through water.

The neck of the vase represents the fin of a fish oscillating in a different plane to its body. The bulb of the vase was reminiscent of antique glass buoys. The string is used as a play on this nautical theme representing the rope that links the buoys together. These were traditionally used to float fishing nets to catch fish in the same way that the fish detail was captured in the original vase. The colours are based on goldfish in the artist’s garden pond.

About The Artist

My work aims at challenging our perception of ourselves, our fragility and strength.

My sculptures evolve by manipulating multiple cast objects so that the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Using repetition as emphasis, the outcome has a decorative geometry and kinetic unity that expresses are shared human experiences and conditions.

Bones are emblematic in much of my work, and the contextually linked objects reveal a narrative. Although frequently ornate, my sculptures hide darker and often sinister subjects that when revealed create dissonance. The sum like an optical puzzle, oscillates between beauty and nightmare.

My work is not autobiographical in the figurative sense, but like many artists, explores the liminal space between conscious representation and unconscious influence.

Recently my work has looked at the humanitarian aspects of the COVID19 pandemic and the current crisis of refugees crossing the English Channel.

About The Artist

Peter was born and grew up in Budapest and although he was interested in drawing from an early age (inspired by his grandad), he pursued a career in sports. He went on to become a physical education teacher following in his parents’ footsteps.

Alongside his teaching career, Peter trained as a boxer and came second in the National Hungarian Boxing Championship. Although he never completely moved away from art, he only become passionate about painting in recent years.

He became interested in a variety of subjects including city and landscapes as well as portraiture. He enjoyed experimenting with oil and became fascinated by the reflection of light from wet surfaces expressed by minimal, often bald mark making. His portraiture is characterised by his subjects emerging from dark backgrounds.

Motivated by his travels, he became interested in watercolour, initially inspired purely by lack of working space. Peter became charmed by British landscapes and coastal towns. Through his paintings, he attempts to convey the atmosphere of a scene with simple mark making.
