About The Artist

I was born and raised in Glasgow. Due to long periods of illness during childhood, I found myself retreating into my own imaginative world, through my love of drawing. As I grew up, it became clear that drawing and painting were my passion. Finally, a long-held ambition was realised when I graduated in Drawing and Painting from Glasgow School of Art.

After Art School, I felt I needed a wider context for my work, so decided to study with The Open University. It was hard going as I was teaching art at the time, but it was very useful. I specialised in 20th century arts, with the study of Music, History and Poetry giving a much wider range of reference to my work.

My work is mainly for private collectors, often being specific commissions for their home or office. Usually these are Allegories, Portraits or Figure Studies. I have had solo and group shows in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Harrogate and Brighton.
My approach is in many ways traditional, following the methods of the great masters of figure painting At the same time I have always been fascinated by the way the camera captures people in both still and moving images. In my work, I try to combine these two potent sources of inspiration to make intriguing images.

Ronnie Ireland – Jazz Singer

I was born into a family of singers – from my father there was opera and the legendary classical singers; from my mother, the Hollywood musicals and the show tunes.

Pop and Rock I found for myself.

This broad base has served me well, as I have enjoyed performing in all of these styles and found their interaction fascinating. Formal voice training followed, with lead roles in opera and international choral performances with the world’s leading conductors and orchestras.

At the same time, I led my own rock band, writing much of the material. “The Great American Songbook” was always there however and audiences were often surprised to be introduced to standards by Irving Berlin or Duke Ellington in between the rock classics!

Nowadays, I centre on those jazz and swing standards, but am always open to including any song from anywhere that catches my interest.

About The Artist

Paintings are Acrylic, Ink and Gouache on Acrylic Board (Canvas too – please enquire).

Painting Dimensions: 20” x 16” or 18 x 14”

Priced from £50 to £199 dependent on complexity plus P+P. All are original paintings and no prints.

I am self-taught and have been painting for around 25 years. I use ink to dot shade all of my paintings; therefore, all my paintings must be viewed from a distance to get the best impression.

I mainly paint film and rock stars but I am prepared to paint anyone the client desires – even themselves. No need for any sittings as I can paint you from a good quality photograph. You will receive a proof of the painting before I commence.

The basic technique can be transposed to any colour of the client’s choosing.

Based in Ash, near Guildford, Surrey.

About The Artist

I was born in 1958 in Northern India. Ambition instilled by my parents to study medicine, came to an end when I was sent to England in 1974 for an arranged marriage. The first job I held was in a factory – this also came to an end as I lasted only two days in that role. On the third day my foreman gave me two day’s wages and advised me that I wasn’t cut out for factory work. A couple of days later I managed to secure another job as a sewing machinist which also didn’t last long.

I held several manual labourer jobs before I was appointed to a clerical role at Beechams in Brentford in 1978. My self-belief and resilience paid off when I was offered a job in a bank as a temporary cashier in 1982. Studying alongside work helped me to progress in my career and finally move in to management roles in 1990.

It was only after taking retirement from this long-term career (26 years to be precise) with Santander Bank and with my children leaving home, that I had time to focus on my lifelong passion and desire to paint.

I am absolutely fascinated by the wonders of nature. Feelings derived from it can’t be put into words. I have never lost that child-like appreciation for deriving pleasure from simple acts of nature, like witnessing a rainbow of colours on the wall when the sun is shining through a window pane, or strolling through natural landscapes.

Without being consciously aware, I was surprised to note that most of my work is trying to capture nature. Included are portraits and I use acrylics on canvas. I love travelling around the globe and many of my art pieces are landscapes inspired from my travels. These are scenes that resonate deeply with me, which I am not consciously aware of until after painting them. Some remain a mystery even after painting and perhaps are better left like that.

I am based in Guildford and have lived in Surrey for the past 15 years.
