About The Artist

I was born in 1958 in Northern India. Ambition instilled by my parents to study medicine, came to an end when I was sent to England in 1974 for an arranged marriage. The first job I held was in a factory – this also came to an end as I lasted only two days in that role. On the third day my foreman gave me two day’s wages and advised me that I wasn’t cut out for factory work. A couple of days later I managed to secure another job as a sewing machinist which also didn’t last long.

I held several manual labourer jobs before I was appointed to a clerical role at Beechams in Brentford in 1978. My self-belief and resilience paid off when I was offered a job in a bank as a temporary cashier in 1982. Studying alongside work helped me to progress in my career and finally move in to management roles in 1990.

It was only after taking retirement from this long-term career (26 years to be precise) with Santander Bank and with my children leaving home, that I had time to focus on my lifelong passion and desire to paint.

I am absolutely fascinated by the wonders of nature. Feelings derived from it can’t be put into words. I have never lost that child-like appreciation for deriving pleasure from simple acts of nature, like witnessing a rainbow of colours on the wall when the sun is shining through a window pane, or strolling through natural landscapes.

Without being consciously aware, I was surprised to note that most of my work is trying to capture nature. Included are portraits and I use acrylics on canvas. I love travelling around the globe and many of my art pieces are landscapes inspired from my travels. These are scenes that resonate deeply with me, which I am not consciously aware of until after painting them. Some remain a mystery even after painting and perhaps are better left like that.

I am based in Guildford and have lived in Surrey for the past 15 years.

About The Artist

I paint in a loose, impressionist style. I am influenced by artists like Ken Howard, John Singer-Sargent, Sorrella, the masters of Chiaroscuro, who emphasised light and dark tonal values almost to the detriment of colour.

Primarily, I am the pastor and teacher of a church in Woking, I have painted professionally for nearly 30 years, holding solo and joint exhibitions in the UK and across Europe. I regularly hold painting classes for students and I am often invited by various Art Societies to demonstrate, hold workshops and appraisals.

Recognition of my talent and ability date back to my early childhood, when Annigoni viewed my work and recommended to my parents that I should pursue my painting. At 12, I won a scholarship to junior art school.

Working in watercolour or oils, my choice of subject is wide-ranging and my faith inspires me. I paint what I see and feel – those things which exercise my mind and cause me to stop, look, think and imagine.

About The Artist

Romy Rey is a Swiss Artist located in Richmond, Surrey (West London), who questions one’s perception of reality. Some of her paintings are a re-interpretation of landscapes she has visited during her extensive travels, others render familiar elements in variable scales and combinations or portray striking images of ancient or tribal objects in imaginary settings.

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, Romy studied in Paris and Geneva and settled in England where she worked as a translator and a partner in bookshops before becoming a painter.

Her work is broken down into four categories –  Ancient and Tribal, Geometrics, Dreamscapes and Landscapes. Romy’s work has been displayed in galleries throughout the UK. Private Colllections are also held in the UK, Switzerland, France, Germany, Mexico and Brazil.

About The Artist

After studying for a year at London University of Art, Joanna decided to embark on a full time career in painting. She has exhibited in Surrey and has plans to take her work around London next year. She came second in the Surrey Artists Open Competition at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking and narrowly missed out on winning the People’s Prize too (2010).

Her main interest lies in painting, however she has an affection for all areas of art, including illustration and tattoo design.

Commissions

“I have a personal style preference in my work, nevertheless, I like to keep my customers happy and understand that certain colours and moods are preferred, so when it comes to commissions, I can adapt my painting to suit you.

The most important thing to me is that the paint illiterates the emotion and personality of the subject.

I love to involve colour in my work, from keeping to colour schemes, to subtly enhancing the natural shades in the skin, but this is something that can be excluded from a commission if necessary.”

Commissions of any size are invited and prices range from £50 to £500+ depending on the size of the canvas.
