For most of my life I lived in Surrey. I loved painting from a young age (see oil painting, aged 8 below).
I studied at Croydon College of Art from1960-63 and then worked as a graphic designer until 2007, giving one day a week to teaching in Colleges of Art; Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Croydon and Reigate.
I taught drawing and painting to adults at Ruxley Lane, Epsom and also practiced as a portrait photographer. In 2009, I concentrated on fine art, photography and teaching.
I was a member of the Dorking Art Group and I also still tutor a group in Caterham, where I was born. Now I have moved to Biggin Hill in Kent, just a few yards from Tatsfield.
I paint landscape, portrait, still life; telling a story or expressing an emotion, emphasising light, tone and colour.
I work in a varied style, but mostly "post-impresssionist", or "academic" rendering.
I work both in my studio or 'en plein air'.
Some are born with a natural talent, (for instance Picasso could draw beautifully at age 7); that applies in all walks of life. However, drawing and painting is often not well taught! My structured methods can bring out the best in any budding artist.
Examples of portraits are included in my portfolio on this Surrey Artists website. If you are interested in having a portrait painted, please contact me with your commission enquiry.

At the age of 7, my art work was entered into the National Exhibition for Children’s Art.
I studied art during my years at school and from there went on to study A-Level fine art and design. During this time I exhibited some of my large abstract canvas art work at Sony Europe.
I furthered my art and design education studying at The Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, Surrey. It was there I achieved my Bachelor of Art Degree in Art and Design.
I temporarily put aside my paint brushes and pencils to work in a different area and raise my daughter. I now enjoy creating bespoke art pieces in my art studio. My passion for wildlife drawing, painting and creating pet portraits has grown over the years.
Within my work I use an array of mediums including acrylic paints, charcoals, watercolours, fine inks and Caran D’Ache pencils.

Having graduated in Design from The Royal College of Art in 1957, Noël Haring started his own industrial and graphic design business. He saw a turning point in his artistic career when a friend introduced him to working in watercolour.
Noël Haring exhibited at The Royal Watercolour Society Summer Exhibition from 1992 and all major exhibitions at the Mall Galleries (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Portrait Artists, Royal Society of Marine Artists) including the most prestigious one: The Singer and Friedlander /Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
In 1997, HRH The Prince of Wales selected all the paintings Noël submitted for The Discerning Eye Exhibition.
In 2000 Noël Haring was a prize winner at the Singer and Friedlander/ Sunday Times competition, with his picture “Classic Car in Havana”.
"His meticulously observed watercolour of a dilapidated colonial-style building bathed in brilliant sunlight, with a well-preserved old banger parked on a road outside, is a considerable achievement, not least because it gives not a hint of how complicated it was to get it to look natural”.
Dr Frank Whitford, Art Editor of The Sunday Times
In November 2005, a new Prize Exhibition organised by the Lynn Foundation together with the Painter-Stainers Company gave Noël an opportunity to once again show his talent. His picture “Morning in Brighton” was one of the 12 selected watercolours among the 53 works of mix media accepted out of more than 700 pictures submitted.
