The vibrant colours of flowers have always fascinated me and I find that Watercolour is the perfect medium to capture their qualities. I think that their appeal is timeless and I hope to capture both the calm and vitality I always feel in studying my subjects.
In recent times my work has diversified substantially. Some time ago I was commissioned to paint a florist shop and the subsequent painting was reproduced as greeting cards. The result of that initial painting has been a flow of commissions on a series of paintings of local shop fronts and houses.
I have also been working for a company designing art projects for an online children’s store, which has lead to further artwork design for festivals, Great Ormond Street Hospital and for private companies. I find that producing work from such different subject matter enables me to return afresh to painting natural plant forms.
How about having your business painted?
I have worked with a number of shop and business owners to provide a unique and artistic representation of their business. My clients always find these attract a positive reaction from customers.
Please contact me for a personalised quote.
You can also use the unique design in flyers, brochures, business cards, websites and other publicity. Some of the shops that I have painted have also had cards made from the prints and used these for gift vouchers.
Homeowners – How about an artistic keepsake of your beloved home? These in particular make a delightful gift for a close friend or family member. You can also have the design made into greeting cards to celebrate Christmas or any other events. Many of my clients have asked for this and I can allow for this in the price, if you are interested.
Change is always good and it challenges you! A little potted history of my working and learning can be found here, in addition to my past work for events and exhibitions and commissions over the years.
I admire the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh; in particular his ability to capture the lyrical quality of plant forms; also Paul Hogarth for his quirky take on architecture and buildings; and finally Elizabeth Blackadder whose paintings filled me with delight as a child. Recently, I had the pleasure of having one of my paintings displayed with hers at a London event.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work and I look forward to hearing from you if you would like to know more.

Primarily, I am the pastor and teacher of a church in Woking, I have painted professionally for nearly 30 years, holding solo and joint exhibitions in the UK and across Europe. I regularly hold painting classes for students and I am often invited by various Art Societies to demonstrate, hold workshops and appraisals.
Recognition of my talent and ability date back to my early childhood, when Annigoni viewed my work and recommended to my parents that I should pursue my painting. At 12, I won a scholarship to junior art school.
Working in watercolour or oils, my choice of subject is wide-ranging and my faith inspires me. I paint what I see and feel – those things which exercise my mind and cause me to stop, look, think and imagine.

I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St. Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.
This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water, however, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.
Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.
Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.
Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
I am always very pleased to receive commissions.

"This is the second website that Chris and Colette from Surrey Artists have designed for me and I am delighted with the result. They put in an amazing amount of work collating a large amount of detail to ensure my paintings are professionally displayed.
The finished website has already attracted a large number of serious enquiries some of which have been converted"

Hildegarde was born on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.
She studied Social Science at the University of the Orange Free State, but has always been passionately involved in painting. She came to the UK in the “Sixties”, is married with two children, and lives in Surrey where she teaches and paints in her Studio in Molesey.
Hildegarde is primarily a “Colourist”. Her work is much influenced by her roots and she brings warmth and vibrancy into her paintings where with gay abandon uses colour and paint in a way that has been described as, “delightfully sensual”. Whether tackling cluttered Still Lifes of everyday objects, or landscapes of Southern Africa and Europe, she delights in depicting the effects of light and dark. The “Impressionists” and “Scottish Colourists” have had a major influence on her work. Although mainly an oil painter, Hildegarde also uses watercolour and mixed media.
Of Painting as an activity, she says “No matter how demanding painting can sometimes be, it always fills me with a huge sense of satisfaction and joy. In painting I escape into a World of my own, where I can revel in creating images with colour, shape and form.”
Hildegarde has sold to clients world-wide. Her paintings are represented by Art Galleries in South Africa and London. Her work is regularly exhibited with the Chelsea Art Society, and has been represented at the Affordable Art, and Battersea Art Fairs . In September 2007 she was Guest Artist for “The Family Law in Partnership”, Bedford Chambers, Covent Garden, London, and exhibited in May 2008 hanging at the Royal British Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. One of her works, “Daffodils” was recently auctioned at the Royal Academy on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Research.
Hildegarde undertakes commissions for Still Lifes incorporating client’s colour schemes and precious possessions as well as painting private homes and gardens.
Hildegarde is a member of Molesey Art Society, Chelsea Art Society, Sunbury on Thames Art Society & Thames Valley Art Society and Weybridge Art Society.
