I have been painting in watercolour now for about twenty years. Most of what I have learned has been through observation and tuition at workshops, and through art clubs. I live now in St. Johns Village, not far from the Basingstoke canal, which in itself is an inspiration, offering up endless subjects changing throughout the year.
This gallery is a showcase of some of my watercolour paintings. For a full set see my website. Some of them are recent, and some are not so, but just retained because I like them. Some of them were sold long ago, others are still available. Waterways are a constant favourite, either local or from my travels. There is nothing quite like watercolour for depicting water, however, the gallery does show quite a mix of subjects and as you can see, elephants have fascinated me for some time.
Watercolour is my chosen medium. It can be infuriating, but rewarding when successful. I have come a long way with it, but there is always more to do, so am unlikely to change to another medium. Occasionally I add some ink for a particular effect, otherwise I depend on the purity of watercolour.
Painting is for me a pleasure, and exhibiting is part of the experience. I usually exhibit locally four or five times a year, with regular venues in Guildford and Pirbright.
Sales enquiries are are gladly received. I don't as yet produce prints, maybe I will one day, but so far have only sold originals. I have sent pictures all over the globe, and can go into detail if you want to enquire about any particular painting. At the time of writing this, the paintings which I have sold are widely distributed not only across the UK, but also hang in collections in France, Eire, Spain, Italy, Greece, Holland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
I am always very pleased to receive commissions.

I am a full-time Ophthalmologist working at East Surrey Hospital in Surrey, I enjoy painting as a hobby in my free time.
I do not have any formal art related training, but I picked up this hobby from one of my friends who used to do pastel drawing which I started along with him. I paint with enthusiasm and passion and try to improve my work by attending regular art group demonstrations.
I started with a few oil colour paintings along with my undergraduate studies, but had to stop during my post-graduation studies and residencies. I revived my hobby with a variety of watercolours followed by oils and pastels.
I had some of my work exhibited in the “Secret artists” exhibition in Dorking and one of my paintings was selected in SAA magazine members’ gallery.
My aim of putting my work on this website is to show my work to a wider community and possibly have some opinion for further development. I will be delighted for any communication regarding my work.
Please contact me regarding sale of art prints.
*I will donate 50% of the proceeds which I may get from sale of prints to Cancer Research Charity (after excluding reasonable and related expenses).

Marbling Paintings & Workshops

The paint is laid on specially prepared water and transferred to paper with a most wonderful and beautiful effect.
I am a Marbling artist and tutor within the Surrey area. I currently teach at Surrey Art School and regularly hold Adult / Adult and Children (Family) / Children and Youth workshops.
My own love affair with this incredible art form was almost preordained, as my given name is also Ebru.
I studied and graduated with a Masters degree from the prestigious Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul – I had the privilege of being taught by the wonderful Hikmet Barutçuǧil, one of the most inspirational living masters of the art.
During my academic education I had the opportunity to learn this ancient art form from the roots up. From crafting my own brushes to creating my own paints from raw natural pigments , I quickly discovered that there was real magic in the art of marbling.
Like life itself, marbling is an adventure where there is never repetition and I believe this art form can teach us a great deal, providing a unique insight into ourselves every time. I love sharing in this journey with those I teach and to watch the results unfold is the greatest gift for me.
Despite it’s robust traditional roots I strongly believe marbling is a limitless and very open minded form of art.
I love to provide tutoring to everyone who wants to know more and meet with this amazing art and introduce them to how versatile and contemporary it can be.
Additionally, the therapeutic characteristics of marbling ”Art of Ebru ” is an unquestionable reality and I strongly support this aspect as part of my teaching . I see my workshops as an opportunity to show people how art , nature and ourselves can combine as one and how our energy can be transformed.
I relish being able to provide the opportunity to those who attend my workshops, to learn the roots of this amazing art and use the possibilities of the Art of Marbling Ebru and the potential within themselves, to be creative .
I regularly hold marbling workshops at Surrey Art School, Newdigate, Dorking.
Information about these and other workshops (which have included Watts Gallery and the Art Events Group) can be found on my website: Marbling Workshops Page
