About The Artist

Born in 1953 in Bearsted, Kent, Miles has spent more than 30 years developing his talent as an Artist. His preferred medium is watercolour and he uses fine-tipped fibre pens for his Pointillism Art.

Miles is completely self-taught and has chosen to specialise in the Circus Clown because of his love of comedy and purely & simply, no one else paints them! His talent enables him to somehow capture their true pathos perfectly.

He has travelled the Country including the Channel Isles, participating in numerous Craft Shows, County Shows and Art Demonstrations.

Among the products available for purchase at these events are original water colours, prints, original pointillism drawings, greeting cards, mouse mats and chopping boards and now fridge magnets!

Miles has exhibited in the United States and Europe and among his more famous customers are Millicent Martin and Ron Moody. He has appeared on BBC Radio Devon and his ‘ambition’ is to be a guest on Desert Island Discs!

About The Artist

I paint in a loose, impressionist style. I am influenced by artists like Ken Howard, John Singer-Sargent, Sorrella, the masters of Chiaroscuro, who emphasised light and dark tonal values almost to the detriment of colour.

Primarily, I am the pastor and teacher of a church in Woking, I have painted professionally for nearly 30 years, holding solo and joint exhibitions in the UK and across Europe. I regularly hold painting classes for students and I am often invited by various Art Societies to demonstrate, hold workshops and appraisals.

Recognition of my talent and ability date back to my early childhood, when Annigoni viewed my work and recommended to my parents that I should pursue my painting. At 12, I won a scholarship to junior art school.

Working in watercolour or oils, my choice of subject is wide-ranging and my faith inspires me. I paint what I see and feel – those things which exercise my mind and cause me to stop, look, think and imagine.

About The Artist

Born in what was the British Protectorate of Aden in South Yemen in 1955. The love of painting, drawing and the beauty of the written word has dominated my life. My professional career began in corporate design leading to exhibition and interior design, culminating in my own design practice in the early eighties.

The spiritual aspect of humanity is a strong influence in my life, and as a result I entered the Benedictine monastery of Quarr Abbey for several years, where I was introduced to bookbinding and the restoration of books. Since leaving monasticism I have continued to develop fine painting, calligraphy and bookbinding.

The love of blending colour and texture in painting, the use of line in drawing, the beauty of the written word in calligraphy and the three dimensional aspect of bookbinding, bring together elements that compliment each other well.

The majority of my work is through commissions, supported by solo and joint exhibitions.

Varied Fine Art Painting & Drawing Categories

These include Architectural, Garden, Botanical, Portraiture and General - The selection on this site gives an indication of the varied work of the artist. More can be seen on his two websites (see the links above).

Reference for my work is either from life, photographs or a combination of both, whichever the occasion demands. Often many commissions are gifts and therefore a surprise, or maybe circumstances do not permit, so working with the subject matter is not all ways possible. In such cases a selection of images of the same subject is always a great help.

I use various media; oils, watercolour, pastel, acrylic, inks and pencil (monochrome). I enjoy texture in my work wherever possible along with detail and tend to be traditional in my approach. Commissions for some clients have been strongly impressionist and or using vivid colour allowing freedom in colour and form.

Art Prints

Small prints of Farnham and bird prints for children are available from The Frame Centre in Downing Street, Farnham. A collection of Limited-Edition Orchid Prints is also available. Initially, please go to walshsands.com and then contact me.

Art Tutor

I cover all the major disciplines and a range of subject matter. Apart from sessional teaching, I am more than happy to give workshops and demonstrations to groups and societies.
