I’m a figurative & portrait artist based in Guildford, Surrey. I’ve always had a fascination with life drawing, the human form and representing people, personalities and emotions through portraiture.
I am self-taught and have learnt my craft through years of practice and experimentation.
I am regularly commissioned for portraits, but also produce my personal work which tends to focus on representations of women. I like to play around with contrasting elements in my work by using different mediums, styles, textures and colours that create various layers and elements to a piece.
I am a member of Member of the Guildford Art Society.

I was born in Fontainebleau, France and I have lived in Surrey for almost 30 years.
After passing my Baccalaureat specialising in Art and History of Art I went on to do a foundation course in the Ateliers de Sevres, Paris, followed by a course in Fine Art at Olivier de Serres Art School, Paris.
As a portrait artist I have exhibited on several occasions at the National Portrait Gallery, as part of the BP Portrait Award Exhibition. I have also exhibited in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition, the Academie Jacques Boitiat, Barbizon, France, Guildford Arts Exhibition at the Mill Studio and the
Lightbox in Woking.
I am currently running a Gallery in Swan Lane, Guildford with 7 other artists ,where you can see some of my work.
I specialise in highly-detailed portrait paintings. My portraits, from children to celebrities, musicians and Vice-Chancellors are recognised for their incredible likeness. My artistic style can also be applied to pet portraits, capturing the personality of your favourite animal.
All my portraits are created with several thin layers of oil on canvas. I work mainly from photographs that I like to take myself but can work from photographs given to me if they are clear enough. Ideally I will meet my sitters a few times to be able to connect with them and capture their personalities in the portrait. I feel a portrait is timeless. It is about capturing the essence of a person. A portrait is a piece of Art that is uniquely yours and can be transmitted through generations. It can also be a wonderful present for your loved ones.
As a mural artist, I have been getting many commissions all around Surrey in schools, bars, hospitals and houses. See below for further information about murals.
I also offer Portrait Workshops and Private Tuition.
For further examples of my work please visit my website and feel free to get in touch for a friendly chat about commissioning a portrait or a mural.

For most of my life I lived in Surrey. I loved painting from a young age (see oil painting, aged 8 below).
I studied at Croydon College of Art from1960-63 and then worked as a graphic designer until 2007, giving one day a week to teaching in Colleges of Art; Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Croydon and Reigate.
I taught drawing and painting to adults at Ruxley Lane, Epsom and also practiced as a portrait photographer. In 2009, I concentrated on fine art, photography and teaching.
I was a member of the Dorking Art Group and I also still tutor a group in Caterham, where I was born. Now I have moved to Biggin Hill in Kent, just a few yards from Tatsfield.
I paint landscape, portrait, still life; telling a story or expressing an emotion, emphasising light, tone and colour.
I work in a varied style, but mostly "post-impresssionist", or "academic" rendering.
I work both in my studio or 'en plein air'.
Some are born with a natural talent, (for instance Picasso could draw beautifully at age 7); that applies in all walks of life. However, drawing and painting is often not well taught! My structured methods can bring out the best in any budding artist.
Examples of portraits are included in my portfolio on this Surrey Artists website. If you are interested in having a portrait painted, please contact me with your commission enquiry.

Having graduated in Design from The Royal College of Art in 1957, Noël Haring started his own industrial and graphic design business. He saw a turning point in his artistic career when a friend introduced him to working in watercolour.
Noël Haring exhibited at The Royal Watercolour Society Summer Exhibition from 1992 and all major exhibitions at the Mall Galleries (Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, Royal Society of Portrait Artists, Royal Society of Marine Artists) including the most prestigious one: The Singer and Friedlander /Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
In 1997, HRH The Prince of Wales selected all the paintings Noël submitted for The Discerning Eye Exhibition.
In 2000 Noël Haring was a prize winner at the Singer and Friedlander/ Sunday Times competition, with his picture “Classic Car in Havana”.
"His meticulously observed watercolour of a dilapidated colonial-style building bathed in brilliant sunlight, with a well-preserved old banger parked on a road outside, is a considerable achievement, not least because it gives not a hint of how complicated it was to get it to look natural”.
Dr Frank Whitford, Art Editor of The Sunday Times
In November 2005, a new Prize Exhibition organised by the Lynn Foundation together with the Painter-Stainers Company gave Noël an opportunity to once again show his talent. His picture “Morning in Brighton” was one of the 12 selected watercolours among the 53 works of mix media accepted out of more than 700 pictures submitted.
