I first started painting when I was only 12 years old. My first piece of art was a heart on a black surface and the heart has followed me through my work ever since.
I' ve been very attached to my paintings as they have shown a part of me, but as my walls filled and corners became unaproachable, I realised it was time for others to see my work.
I usually stand in front of an empty canvas and just start painting. What it becomes, the canvas, is often a surprise for me as well. So, it's fair to say, Abstract Expressionism is my style of painting.
Recently, I' ve discovered that paint brushes exist, so I have painted some portraits and nudes. It was fun, but nothing can match the naked hand in a pot of acrylic paint and as a Baccalaureate of Nursing, I do have gloves!
I enjoy commissions, but be aware, I will put my own twist on them!
Not currently a member of a Surrey Art Group or Surrey Art Society.
The first time I exhibited was in 2019 at one of the London Art Fairs and it was one of the most memorable days of my life. Currently a range of my paintings is exhibited at The Framing Workshop in Ashtead.
This is the award-winning Still Life – “Best Professional Still Life Artist of the year 2020.
“I was amazed to win this coveted award, since I painted this in about half an hour as a demonstration for a class that I ran in Dorking. They also exhibited 4 other still life works of mine.” It also won Bronze Medal at the ArtisTTable USA Exhibition in c.1994. It is a watercolour study of fruits with a striped apron and can be viewed at the Artist’s studio

For most of my life I lived in Surrey. I loved painting from a young age (see oil painting, aged 8 below).
I studied at Croydon College of Art from1960-63 and then worked as a graphic designer until 2007, giving one day a week to teaching in Colleges of Art; Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Croydon and Reigate.
I taught drawing and painting to adults at Ruxley Lane, Epsom and also practiced as a portrait photographer. In 2009, I concentrated on fine art, photography and teaching.
I was a member of the Dorking Art Group and I also still tutor a group in Caterham, where I was born. Now I have moved to Biggin Hill in Kent, just a few yards from Tatsfield.
I paint landscape, portrait, still life; telling a story or expressing an emotion, emphasising light, tone and colour.
I work in a varied style, but mostly "post-impresssionist", or "academic" rendering.
I work both in my studio or 'en plein air'.

Some are born with a natural talent, (for instance Picasso could draw beautifully at age 7); that applies in all walks of life. However, drawing and painting is often not well taught! My structured methods can bring out the best in any budding artist.
Examples of portraits are included in my portfolio on this Surrey Artists website. If you are interested in having a portrait painted, please contact me with your commission enquiry.

Yana's art reflects her passion for nature; she loves creating the beauty of nature that attracts her attention on to the canvas using acrylic and watercolour. She also enjoys painting portraits, animals, various landscapes, flowers and trees.
Yana has always enjoyed drawing and painting. As a child growing up in Russia (b.1979) she was always drawing, but her parents were academics and didn't see art as a profession, so they sent her to accounting school! Thus, her love of drawing was put to one side for many years.
In 2008 Yana moved with her husband to settle in the UK with her young family. She found much pleasure drawing with the children just for fun. The family then moved to Saudi in 2014 and it was there that Yana began to paint. She was invited to join a drawing and painting course and meet fellow artists who encouraged her to paint and share her talents and work. Yana was fortunate enough to be taught by the internationally recognised artist Naima Karim who has exhibited worldwide, and American artist Tomas Rodriguez.

Sip and Paint Parties will be available at my brand new garden studio from mid July 2022, or alternatively I can travel to offer Sip and Paint in client's gardens.
The cost per person is £35. Maximum of 10 people.
The price includes;
For Afternoon Tea Sip and Paint:
Member of Woking Art Society and Guildford Art Society
All of Yana's paintings are one-offs and she also accepts commissions. Recently, her work has been displayed at the Art Exhibition at Cellar de Magneval, Woking.

Whilst studying in London at Heatherley and the City and Guilds Schools of Art I worked with artist Spencer Churchill on a series of portraits of Winston Churchill for American clients. I also worked for many years with Royal Portrait Painter, Bernard Hailstone.
During this time I exhibited paintings in the Royal Portrait and Wildlife Societies as well as the Leardi Gallery.
I moved to Germany where I lived for over 25 years working as a full time artist and teacher specialising in portraits, animals and the British Military.
Recently I have returned to live in the UK.
My studio is in Salfords a village in the borough of Reigate and Banstead in Surrey,
I do talks and demonstrations in oils and pastels, of portraits and animals, also give tuition in all mediums and subjects.
Rates are, individual £50 per hour, group depends on size. eg a group of up to 4 would be £15 /£20 per pupil.
Ian is a member of Woking Art Society. He exhibits in the Light Box Gallery in Woking with the Art Society and in 2018 was Highly Commended with his oil painting called Break Time.
