I am a full-time Ophthalmologist working at East Surrey Hospital in Surrey, I enjoy painting as a hobby in my free time.
I do not have any formal art related training, but I picked up this hobby from one of my friends who used to do pastel drawing which I started along with him. I paint with enthusiasm and passion and try to improve my work by attending regular art group demonstrations.
I started with a few oil colour paintings along with my undergraduate studies, but had to stop during my post-graduation studies and residencies. I revived my hobby with a variety of watercolours followed by oils and pastels.
Some of my work was exhibited in the “Secret Artists” exhibition in Dorking and one of my paintings was selected in SAA magazine members’ gallery.
My aim on this website is to show my work to a wider community and possibly have some opinion for further development. I will be delighted for any communication regarding my work.
Please contact me regarding sale of art prints.
*I will donate 50% of the proceeds received from sale of prints to Cancer Research Charity (after excluding reasonable and related expenses).

Hildegarde was born on the edge of the Kalahari Desert, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.
She studied Social Science at the University of the Orange Free State, but has always been passionately involved in painting. She came to the UK in the “Sixties”, is married with two children, and lives in Surrey where she teaches and paints in her Studio in Molesey.
Hildegarde is primarily a “Colourist”. Her work is much influenced by her roots and she brings warmth and vibrancy into her paintings where with gay abandon uses colour and paint in a way that has been described as, “delightfully sensual”. Whether tackling cluttered Still Lifes of everyday objects, or landscapes of Southern Africa and Europe, she delights in depicting the effects of light and dark. The “Impressionists” and “Scottish Colourists” have had a major influence on her work. Although mainly an oil painter, Hildegarde also uses watercolour and mixed media.
Of Painting as an activity, she says “No matter how demanding painting can sometimes be, it always fills me with a huge sense of satisfaction and joy. In painting I escape into a World of my own, where I can revel in creating images with colour, shape and form.”
Hildegarde has sold to clients world-wide. Her paintings are represented by Art Galleries in South Africa and London. Her work is regularly exhibited with the Chelsea Art Society, and has been represented at the Affordable Art, and Battersea Art Fairs . In September 2007 she was Guest Artist for “The Family Law in Partnership”, Bedford Chambers, Covent Garden, London, and exhibited in May 2008 hanging at the Royal British Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London. One of her works, “Daffodils” was recently auctioned at the Royal Academy on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Research.
Hildegarde undertakes commissions for Still Lifes incorporating client’s colour schemes and precious possessions as well as painting private homes and gardens.
Hildegarde is a member of Molesey Art Society, Chelsea Art Society, Sunbury on Thames Art Society & Thames Valley Art Society and Weybridge Art Society.
