About The Artist

I am a Textural Abstract Artist who works solely from my private studio. I have always had a passion for art, textures, and textiles and have been painting and creating ever since I can remember. I was awarded bursaries which allowed me to study Fine Art, Graphic Design, Calligraphy, and Textile Design at college, where I learned different painting techniques, structures, textures, and compositions within art. My process is rough, raw, and earthy. I find my inspiration from nature and my surroundings. My artwork is unique, as well as my paints, gouache and ink that I make by hand using natural earth pigments and binders on stretched artist-grade canvas.

About The Artist

My work aims at challenging our perception of ourselves, our fragility and strength.

My sculptures evolve by manipulating multiple cast objects so that the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Using repetition as emphasis, the outcome has a decorative geometry and kinetic unity that expresses are shared human experiences and conditions.

Bones are emblematic in much of my work, and the contextually linked objects reveal a narrative. Although frequently ornate, my sculptures hide darker and often sinister subjects that when revealed create dissonance. The sum like an optical puzzle, oscillates between beauty and nightmare.

My work is not autobiographical in the figurative sense, but like many artists, explores the liminal space between conscious representation and unconscious influence.

Recently my work has looked at the humanitarian aspects of the COVID19 pandemic and the current crisis of refugees crossing the English Channel.

Sneeze 2020

Sneeze 2020 uses a sculpture of cast human pelvic bones arranged in a COVID19 form. The bones reflect human vulnerability and mortality during the pandemic.

The sculpture is digitally repeated creating an imaginary sneeze as if COVID19 were visible spreading through the air. The image is ironically decorative and black and white.

COVID 19 is so small it can neither absorb or reflect light and is actually colourless. The colour in electron microscope images often red, is artificial. Despite its size, this tiny particle has caused social, economic and political havoc to humanity.

Making Waves

The work was based on an antique Chinese vase from a museum archive. The vase was red and gold and had a fish detail in the glaze. The sculpture reflects the fish detail by simulating the sinusoidal motion of a fish through water.

The neck of the vase represents the fin of a fish oscillating in a different plane to its body. The bulb of the vase was reminiscent of antique glass buoys. The string is used as a play on this nautical theme representing the rope that links the buoys together. These were traditionally used to float fishing nets to catch fish in the same way that the fish detail was captured in the original vase. The colours are based on goldfish in the artist’s garden pond.

Evolution

This work explores Aristotle’s theory that the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. By using deconstructed and repeated form and magnifying repetition of imperfection, a physical evolution occurs – repetition creating difference not replication.

About The Artist

My work aims at challenging our perception of ourselves, our fragility and strength.

My sculptures evolve by manipulating multiple cast objects so that the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. Using repetition as emphasis, the outcome has a decorative geometry and kinetic unity that expresses are shared human experiences and conditions.

Bones are emblematic in much of my work, and the contextually linked objects reveal a narrative. Although frequently ornate, my sculptures hide darker and often sinister subjects that when revealed create dissonance. The sum like an optical puzzle, oscillates between beauty and nightmare.

My work is not autobiographical in the figurative sense, but like many artists, explores the liminal space between conscious representation and unconscious influence.

Recently my work has looked at the humanitarian aspects of the COVID19 pandemic and the current crisis of refugees crossing the English Channel.
